Barbora Satranská, Title: Between 5:29–21:29

Opening: 14 May, 6 PM

Exhibition: 15 May – 1 July 2025

Visual artist Barbora Satranská presents a collection of charcoal and pencil drawings, bound into a single book, created during a sixteen-hour stay inside Villa Tugendhat and its immediate surroundings. The villa’s characteristic, stoic still lifes-long since freed from everyday life-are complemented by the artist’s personal yet matter-of-fact commentary. Together, they form a counterpoint, with regular intervals marked by timestamps on the book’s left margin. The technical graphic design, inspired by the visual language of various do-it-yourself publications from the 1960s, contrasts with the looseness of the drawings, resulting in a visually distinctive new book.

A significant part of these works was created as part of a gathering of selected illustrators-Jakub Bachorík, Jakub Plachý, Barbora Satranská, Vojtěch Šeda, Jan Šrámek, and Veronika Vlková-who were invited to create their own interpretations of this iconic functionalist building. Direct experience with the villa’s space, its history, its setting in the park, and the use of natural materials is reflected in new artistic perspectives that expand the possibilities for contemporary presentation of architecture.

Barbora Satranská (*1997) works with collage, printmaking, drawing, painting, and performance. Together with Laura Hédervári (*1997), she forms the duo Meograf. Since 2020, they have organized an annual festival at the improvised cultural center Tintili in Třtice. Her first graphic novel, Spořilov (2019), published by Fake Fake Fake (Take Take Take), received the Muriel Award in the student category. She graduated from the Illustration and Graphics Studio led by Juraj Horváth at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (2023). Her diploma work, Talking About Apples Without Knowing Apple Trees, was stolen and returned to her several times; she currently lives in Brno.
